HOME >> HELP >> BACKSIDE GRIND

This trick is performed almost exactly the same as the curb grind. But there are a couple things that you need to practice before you are good enough to do the real thing.

Doing backsides is almost as easy as doing frontsides. The one thing is that your back is facing the rail therefore making it harder to see where you are landin. You will need to learn to to a backside stall before you can even consider grinding. Then learn to turn and stall. So, jump up on the curb and stall. Do this about 50 times, stalling as long as you possible can.

Assuming you already can do a backside stall, the actual grind will be easy to do. First, you need to find a low and not very steep bar to practice sliding on. Just about anything will do. When you are ready, start out by approaching the bar slowly, and at a slight angle. As you come to the front of the bar, jump high, and pull up your legs. Keep your eye on your landing spot as you spin through the 90 degrees, as you are coming back down, unwind and drop your legs onto the bar. The only hard part in this is landing properly. Always watch where you are landing, or else you will fall. Also note that you will have to jump higher and harder to land properly. Once you are on, your legs should be about shoulder width apart, and you should be grinding in the space between your middle two wheels. As with any trick, the key to having a successful backside is practice. This is not one of those tricks where you can learn it in an hour, it may take a couple weeks.
